This was our second stop
in Soest on this tour. In October, Frank Curtis and I played acoustic sets at
Jason's Irish Pub. Tonight was a special night, celebrating Alan Greene's 50th
birthday with his friends at the Highland Hotel. Alan is half of the acoustic
folk duo Alan & Kelsey. Kelsey arranges all the music at Jason's Irish Pub and
the Highland Hotel.
Kelsey and her brothers Nigel and Jason (proprietor of the Highland) presented
Alan with a beautiful cake and a gorgeous Irish bodhran, a traditional Irish
drum.
After the Electric Beans set ended, Drew Frink busted out his Mandolin and joined
Nigel and Kelsey on acoustic guitars while John Flanders added flute. The guitars
got passed around and songs were shared until just before daylight. One of the
highlights of the evening/morning for me was hearing Nigel, Jason and Kelsey
harmonize together on a beautiful song about whales (Maybe they'll remind me
of the title... mike@bigugly.com). An
amazing evening.
Thank you Pritchett family for providing such a warm and friendly venue.
Our friend and fan Christian Schneider also shot and posted some great photos of the band in action at the Highland Hotel. We'll try to get them posted for you soon!
